Have you ever wondered how you could repel against fleas/ticks/mosquitoes without expensive harsh chemicals and unknown side effects? Here is a DIY Flea/Tick/Mosquito spray that is cheaper and safer than mainstream topical and internal preventatives!

I have been using these methods since August 2015 on both my dog and cat in Florida where insects are pretty common. So far by following these methods, we have been completely parasite free and are reaping the benefits of having the pets completely chemical free! These benefits include stronger immune system & no allergy symptoms.

What You Will Need:

  • Spray Bottle

  • Lemongrass Essential Oil

  • Cedarwood Essential Oil

  • Water

Ratio:

  • 4oz Water

  • 5ml Cedarwood Essential Oil

  • 4 drops of Lemongrass Oil

*You can adjust the ratio for larger dogs*

What You Will Do:

  1. After a good scrubbing in the tub and a towel/blow dry, brush your dog's hair in the opposite direction it usually lays (this may not be necessary for short coat breeds).

  2. Spray their entire body but make sure to avoid their face, ears, and genitalia.

  3. Apply some of the spray to your hands, rub them together, and gently massage it onto the areas previously avoided (face, ears) but still staying away from genitalia.

You may spray your dog or cat with this solution every two to three days or as needed. I do not use this spray daily or even weekly. I usually only spray Hank after a bath (every two to three weeks) and when we go out in public (ie park where he may be more exposed to other dogs with parasites) and I only spray Olive the cat if she is going outside.

If you use this solution as recommended, you can completely eliminate all mainstream insect repellents and guess what? You can use this on yourself and your house too, because it is completely non-toxic. I use this spray on my one year old son, so I would not recommend it if I didn't know with 100% certainty that it works and that it is SAFE.

I hope you found this blog post helpful and feel free to share it with anyone you feel may be interested.
